Chamber Showcase Offers Activities and Opportunities for the Entire Family

Frankfort residents are invited to learn, give back and have fun at the annual event.

The 29th annual Frankfort Chamber of Commerce Community Showcase is this Saturday at Lincoln-Way East High School.

“The goal of this event really is to support our local businesses,” said Karen Blake, executive director of the chamber.

Chamber representatives anticipate that approximately 3,000 people will attend this year’s free event. 90 chamber members, local businesses and nonprofit organizations have arranged to have booths at the showcase.

The event provides a chance for families to enjoy a day out together, but it is also a networking opportunity for professionals, according to Don Olivieri, who is co-chairman of the community showcase committee.

“This is the businesses’ opportunity to showcase their goods and services to the community,” he said.

The day will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m.

Orlando Serrano, of “Food Network Challenge” fame, will be at the showcase from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. He will conduct a cake decorating demonstration and host a people’s choice decorating contest with audience participation.

Staley, the mascot for the Chicago Bears, will be at the event from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Home Depot will host kids craft project workshops. Younger attendees can also enjoy moonwalk inflatables, face painting and balloon animals.

The local children’s orchestra will perform from 1-2 p.m.

P.A.W.S. of Tinley Park will host pet visits with adoptable cats and dogs all day and Heartland Blood Center is partnering with the Frankfort Lions Club to facilitate on-site blood donations.

The Frankfort Public Library Bookmobile will be at the event as well.

Palermo’s Pizza and Kernel Sweetooth will serve snacks and treats and the chamber will raffle off $500 in gift checks.

The showcase will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 2 at the Lincoln-Way East Field House. Visitor parking is in the school’s east lot. There is no admission cost.
