The day will begin with a mass in the St. Joseph Chapel followed by a display of academic colors. The actual inauguration will be at 3 p.m. in the Pat Sullivan Center, followed by a picnic reception on the Quadrangle.

The event will be attended by USF faculty, staff and students; alumni; longtime donors; Joliet community leaders; delegates from regional schools, colleges and universities; and USF friends and supporters.

Johnson, the university's ninth president, has announced he will dedicate his presidency to the theme, “Called to Serve, Called to Lead.”

Arvid Johnson will be inaugurated as the new president of the University of St. Francis on Oct. 4, the feast day of the Joliet college's patron saint.

Johnson, a Frankfort resident, is also the president of the Lincoln-Way High School District 210 Board of Education. He holds nine U.S. and dozens of foreign patents.

He has a bachelor’s degree in physics from Lewis University in Romeoville, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in Boston, an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C., and a doctorate in management science from the Stuart School of Business at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.
