Hickory Creek Middle School student Rachel Dal Bianco will perform for an audience of hundreds at the Rialto Square Theatre’s fourth annual Rialto Idol Junior singing competition on Nov. 24.
Rialto Idol Junior is a regional vocal competition featuring kids and teens from across Chicagoland.
“I didn’t think I’d make it past the semifinals,” said Dal Bianco. “I’m really excited.”
The 11-year old sixth grader auditioned for Rialto Idol by submitting a YouTube video of herself singing an a capella rendition of “Superboy and the Invisible Girl,” from the musical Next to Normal.

Dal Bianco was one of 40 junior competitors selected for the live audition semifinal round. At the semifinals, the group was narrowed down to 20 contestants, who will perform in the final round, on the stage of the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet.
Much like the television show American Idol, each Rialto Idol contestant will sing and accept critiques from a panel of judges. When the competition draws to a close, the top three performers will be announced and awarded cash prizes.
“She really wanted this and she worked hard to get there,” said Rachel’s mother, Theresa. “We’re all so proud of her.”
Dal Bianco has always had an interest in music. She sings in two choirs at Hickory Creek and is currently taking private voice lessons. Dal Bianco has also participated in productions by the Curtain Call Theatre. She hopes to perform on Broadway someday.
The Junior Idol competition runs from 12-3 p.m. Tickets cost $7. To purchase tickets, click here.
