Synopsis: JOSEPH and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Joseph is the tale of a dreamer who is the favorite son of his father Jacob, but because of Jacob’s obvious bias, Joseph becomes the target for the festering jealousy of his eleven brothers. When Jacob presents Joseph with a many colored coat, the brothers have had enough, spiriting him away and selling him into slavery in Egypt, but things don’t go exactly as they planned. Arguably not just the most well known but the best musical to have come out of the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd-Weber partnership, Joseph was nominated for numerous TONY, Drama Desk and Laurence Olivier awards. The story opens with the Narrator encouraging the children’s choir to dream. Her voice is soon joined by Joseph and the shows spreads its wings from there. Joseph is sung most of the way through with very little spoken dialogue, encompassing many musical styles, including Country, Rock, Ballads and even Calypso. Described as the most entertaining couple of hours spent inside a theatre, Joseph’s family friendly storyline, universal themes and rousing music get the audience dancing in the aisles. Go, Go, Go Joe!!
