JJC Chamber Singers and Chorale Spring Concert

The Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Department presents the JJC Chamber Singers and the JJC Chorale, in concert together on Saturday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet.

Entitled “Rule Britannia!” and conducted by Philip Spencer, JJC professor of music, this concert will offer an entertaining variety of music from the British Isles and former colonies. The featured work on the program will be the Mass of the Children, written in 2003 by the English composer John Rutter. This work incorporates favorite children’s prayers and hymns among the traditional texts of a mass.

JJC’s two choirs will be assisted by a 10-piece chamber ensemble, several student soloists, and a Girls Ensemble from Crone Middle School in Naperville.

The concert will also include other choral music from England, Scotland, Canada, Zimbabwe, Malaysia, Tanzania, Kenya, and the United States, including settings of two Beatles tunes arranged for the King’s Singers. In addition, a new composition by Spencer will be premiered at this concert, Immortal Morning, Shining Night, a setting of two poems by the American writer James Agee.

Tickets at the door are $5 general public, $4 seniors, students, JJC faculty and staff; and $2 JJC students.
