Young Anglers Enjoy Frankfort's Fishing Derby

Frankfort's fishing derby hooked youngsters for a fun time Saturday, June 28.

It was a beautiful morning for fishing in Frankfort’s Prairie Park pond on June 28, as 64 young anglers attended the 11th annual “Get Hooked on Frankfort” fishing derby sponsored by the Village of Frankfort.  Youngsters ranging from ages 3 to 12 participated in the annual event.  Prizes, including fishing poles, reels, and tackle boxes, were awarded for the biggest fish caught and most fish caught in two age categories (3 to 7 and 8 to 12). The Village also awarded gift certificates to Frankfort restaurants for the winners to enjoy with their family.

Winners in the 3 to 7 age bracket included  Sophia Reising,  age 3, of Frankfort for the biggest fish caught at 12 inches, and Amaya Johnston, age 6 of Frankfort for the most fish caught (12 fish).  Winners in the 8 to 12 age bracket included Brett O’Sullivan, age 11 of Frankfort, for the most fish caught (19 fish), and Emerson Dell, age 12 of Frankfort for the biggest fish caught at 12 inches.  A total of 231 fish were caught during the event. Mary Canino, Manager of Community Relations for the Village was on hand to present the prizes to the winners.

“The energy and enthusiasm, demonstrated by these young fishermen is exciting and fun to watch," said Mayor Jim Holland.  “I enjoyed the event with my six year old grandson, Nikolai.  A special thanks is extended to the Village staff, and the volunteers, for their assistance in making this annual event a huge success."
