Local Haunts: Does a Teen Ghost Haunt the Abe Lincoln Motel?

Stories are told about the spectre of a girl wandering through the rooms of the Frankfort motel. What does Abe Lincoln's manager think?

To get in the spirit of Halloween this week, I'm taking a look at some of the spooky legends surrounding local haunts around Frankfort. Have any suggestions of ghost-infested locales I should investigate? Leave them in the comments suggestion. Tomorrow: Frankfort Fire Station No. 3.

The haunted: What is it about motels, hotels and inns--think Psycho and The Shining--that make them fodder for scary stories? Apparently, Frankfort's  on West Lincoln Highway is no exception. Stories have been told about the ghost of a teenage girl materializing in one of the rooms.

The supernatural reason: No one knows for sure. Legend has it that the teen died at the motel, but Karen Gasser, Abe Lincoln's general manager for the past five years, said she had never heard of any girl dying in one of the rooms. Who knows? Maybe ghosts need a place to crash when they're away from home.

The logical reason: The Abe Lincoln is about 60 years old, which could be a factor when it comes to things that go bump in the night.

"It's settling. It's old. It makes noise," said Gasser, who puts the blame for the supernatural tales on the building's old-style architecture. "But as far as apparitions, no I've never seen anything."
