The honored and remembered veterans during the traditional Memorial Day ceremony held on on Monday, May 28.
Mayor Jim Holland, a veteran U.S. Coast Guard pilot, thanked service men and women for "sacrificing the comforts of home, comforts of family, to defend our great country." He shared the history of Memorial Day, its significance and how Frankfort has always been active in supporting and honoring veterans.
Joe Powers, the incoming commander for , continued the tradition of lowering the flag for Memorial Day, and a wreath was laid to honor fallen soldiers. Music was provided by the for a large crowd that withstood the heat to hear the names of the 710 locally buried soldiers read by local attorney Ken Grey.
