Frankfort Continues Battle against Pesky Emerald Ash Borer

The Village is still checking out trees for signs of infestation. Removal and replacement will continue this summer and fall.

The Village of Frankfort is still checking local ash trees for signs of infestation by emerald ash borer.

A review of all ash trees will again continue this summer. Trees that are marked with a green dot will be removed and replaced in the fall.

If a tree is deemed to be unsafe due to its condition, the tree will be removed as necessary for safety reasons. Tree replacement will begin in the fall and wrap up in spring 2015.  Residents will again receive a letter advising them of the removal and replacement.

The Public Works Department will remove trees 12 inches and smaller.  Larger trees will be removed by a tree service.  Stumps will be ground on all tree removal.

Species of replacement trees will be determined by the Public Works tree replacement program to provide a diverse tree inventory throughout the community.  A two- and a half-foot caliper replacement tree will be planted.  Larger caliper trees are determined to be difficult to grow as there is too much stress placed on the tree when it is larger.
