Cruise the Creek: A Family Bike Ride through Hickory Creek

See the woodlands, wetlands and prairie of Hickory Creek Preserve.

The fifth annual Cruise the Creek is a free family bike ride and festival hosted by the Forest Preserve District of Will County. It runs from New Lenox through Mokena and parts of Frankfort.

It's planned from noon-5 p.m. Oct. 5 and begins at Hickory Creek Barrens Nature Preserve.  Parking is available at Hickory Creek Junction, 2759 E. Lincoln Highway. The bike ride will take place on two-loop trail. Riders can choose either a six-mile loop or an 11-mile loop, according to the Forest Preserve District of Will County website.

The event is free and open to all ages, but the ride is recommended for people 11 years old and above. Riders need to have their own bicycles. Participants are urged to bring water and wear safety helmets.

Pre-registration is required no later than noon Oct. 3. To register online, click here.

Pre-registered riders will be able to check in at 11:30 a.m. at the event. Riders must leave the trail no later than 2 p.m. The first 500 pre-registered riders to check in will receive a free T-shirt. On-site registration will open at noon on the day of the event.

After the ride, the forest preserve staff has organized a fall festival gathering with entertainment, children's activities, petting zoo, inflatables, s'mores and pumpkin painting, will continue until 4 p.m.
