ComEd Still Working to Restore Power Lost in Storm

There is still no timetable for customers to get their power back but many residents are back on line.

Some power outages in the Lincoln-Way area have been fixed but there is no telling when others will be back on line, a ComEd spokeswoman said Sunday afternoon.

"We are working as quickly as we can to restore customers," said spokeswoman Ashley Dennison, who added, "We do not have a global restoration time as of yet."

Dennison said 79,000 customers lost power in the Sunday afternoon storm. A ComEd map showed thousands in and around Frankfort and south of New Lenox lost power in the storm. The same map showed most of these residents got their power back by 3:30 p.m.

During the storm a tornado reportedly was spotted south of Frankfort, National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Friedlein said.

On the south end of town, trees were uprooted by the storm and rooftops were damaged. One house in the Gateway Mobile Home Park off Steger Road was missing part of its roof. Several houses sustained roof and siding damage.

The awning over the gas pumps at the Speedway gas station at Center Road and Laraway sustained damage in the storm. Power lines were down in neighborhoods south of Route 30.
