Chili Cook-off Heats Up Founders Center

Whose chili had tongues tingling? Find out who won.

Even though Frankfort’s Winter on the Green Chili Cook Off  moved indoors to Founders Center due to the cold and snow over 200 people gathered to taste 8 varieties of chili and vote for their favorites.  Crowds lined up throughout the event for the opportunity to taste and critique mild, medium or spicy varieties prepared from favorites chili recipes.  Prizes were awarded for first, second and third place, and “Crowd Pleaser”. The annual event, the fifth in a series of six Winter on the Green events, is always a crowd favorite.

The winners of the Chili Cook Off for 2014 were:

  • First Prize: Jimmy Jos of Bourbonnais (contestant #4)
  • Second Prize: Debra Hunt of Markham (contestant #8)
  • Third Prize: Nate Green of Frankfort (contestant #2)
  • Crowd Pleaser: Jimmy Jos of Bourbonnais (contestant #4)

Thanks to our judges, Jim Garofalo, owner of Kup a Joe Café in Frankfort and Matt Griseta, chef at White Street Café in Frankfort, for their efforts to taste chili from the contestants.
