UPDATE: A Look at the Next Five Days: Feb. 28-March 4

The playoffs begin for boys basketball, and it's the last day for L-W preschool registration.

UPDATE (9:14 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28)--The sale auction for Gas City's service stations has been changed. The deadline for the first round of bids is Wednesday, March 2, and the deadline for the second round is March 23. The final auction will be April 4. An earlier posting of What's Ahead listed the auction's original schedule.

MONDAY, FEB. 28

Lincoln-Way Preschool Registration 

When: 9 a.m.-2 p.m.  
Where: , 19900 S. Harlem Ave.  

This is the final day for Lincoln-Way area residents to register their children in the 2011-12 preschool program sponsored by the Family and Consumer Sciences Child Care classes at and Lincoln-Way North high schools. To be eligible for the preschool program, children must be 3 years old by Sept. 1, toilet trained and reside within the Lincoln-Way school district. Parents may attend either registration day regardless of their school preference. Go  for more details.

When: 7 p.m.

Boys Basketball Lincoln-Way North Regional: Shephard vs. Lincoln-Way North  

When: 7:30 p.m.  
Where: , 19900 S. Harlem Ave.    

The Phoenix starts its playoff run on a friendly court as the team takes on Alan B. Shephard High School. Check Frankfort Patch on Monday night for complete coverage and analysis of this game. If L-W North wins,  it will play Thorton High School on Tuesday, March 1.

More 1-2-3-Magic Parenting Seminar

Clinical psychologist Dr. Thomas Phelan will talk to parents in the Lincoln-Way community about effective parenting techniques and establishing strong relationships with your children. Mobile Learning Center  

When: 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Looking for employment in the Will County area? The Mobile Learning Center equips job seekers with the tools they need to find a job locally. Because of the blizzard, February's visit was canceled. Go for more details.

Boys Basketball Lincoln-Way North Regional: Lincoln-Way East vs. Sandburg

When: 7:30 p.m.

Better Government Association Citizen Watchdog Training 

When: 6-8 p.m. 
Where: Joliet Junior College, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet  

This free program gives residents tips on keeping an eye on their local government and reporting what's going on in their communities. Veteran journalists, investigators and legal professionals will lead sessions on understanding government, the Open Meetings Act and the Freedom of Information Act. Fat Thursday/Paczkis Day

There seems to be a debate in the area on when Paczkis Day should be celebrated. Is it on Fat Thursday, the last Thursday before Lent, which keeps with the Polish tradition? Or should it be on Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday?
