2010 Census: Housing Units Almost Double in Frankfort in Last 10 Years

The village's vacancy rate stays relatively the same over the past decade, according to Census data.

The number of residences in Frankfort nearly doubled in the past 10 years, according to 2010 U.S. Census data released Thursday.

And even though home building declined and foreclosures increased during the tail end of the past decade, Frankfort's homeowner vacancy rate stayed relatively the same from 2000 to 2010. The village's rental vacancy rate, however, did increase from 1.1 to 3.4 during the same time frame.

The following chart outlines the Census Bureau's breakdown of housing unit statistics in Frankfort. A housing unit, as defined by the bureau, "is a house, an apartment, a mobile home, a group of rooms, or a single room that is occupied (or if vacant, is intended for occupancy) as separate living quarters. Separate living quarters are those in which the occupants live and eat separately from any other persons in the building and which have direct access from the outside of the building or through a common hall."
