Liven up your winter with a February Piano, Harp, Chorus, Parent Class, or Voice Offering at The Music Connection!

Short term February classes are being offered at The Music Connection of Orland Park and Frankfort.

Smart Start Piano 1 classes are being offered for children 6-8 years old who are new to piano.  Smart Start 2 classes are for children who have had a previous piano class and enjoy learning in the class format.  Classes will be limited to 6 children. Classes are offered after school Mondays in Frankfort and Fridays in Orland Park. “These classes are an inexpensive way for children to learn beginning piano with peer support” said Janet Kuester, director. “The children will play piano together and work on piano geography, beginning reading and listening skills, rhythm, and fun music they will delight in playing for family and friends.”

Children’s chorus is offered in Frankfort for the first time. Children will perform at The Music Connection Vocal Showcase in May. The Children’s Chorus will be directed by Heidi Vandevoort. “Ms. Vandevoort is a wonderful choir director. She truly has a passion for it and enjoys helping children sing properly to nurture and develop the young singer’s voice,” said Janet Kuester, director.

Classics to Jazz is being offered in Orland Park to pianists who are playing at the level of Suzuki Book 2 on piano or above. Children must know how to read treble and bass clef.  Class time will be spent on learning works for 4 or more pianos jazz and classical. Performance will be at the Music Connection Group concert in April. “We have two yearly instrumental group performances, Winter and Spring.  Our April performance will feature this class playing a piece for multiple pianos.”

Reading Music for Suzuki Parents will be held on Sundays in Orland Park. “Many of our parents are finding it hard to help their children at home if they themselves do not know how to read music.  Learning to read music as an adult is a skill that can be developed with some small steps taken each day,” said Kuester.

Another new offering is the Voice /Piano class for ages  9-11 . “Many children who like to sing also express an interest in learning to play the piano to aid their home music making. Our vocal teachers both agree that good piano skills help the vocalist for checking pitches, learning new music, and developing skills that will help them accompany themselves or others. We are so fortunate to have two voice teachers: Heidi Vandevoort and Gretel Mink Hansen who love teaching voice and piano. “

The Adult Harp Class meets on Tuesday nights and is ongoing. Though the class has already started, new adults from beginner to late elementary are welcome in this class designed for 6-8 students. Harp rental is available.
