Shock Turns Into ‘Pretty Good Feeling’ After Acing 11th Hole at Sanctuary Golf Course
NEW LENOX (Aug. 9, 2013) — Jeff Gallichio, a 37-year-old Frankfort resident, figured it couldn’t get much better. He was amongst friends playing golf at Sanctuary Golf Course in New Lenox on a warm, summer afternoon while helping raise money for the Lincolnway Special Recreation Foundation as part of its sixth annual charity golf outing.
Gallichio, who estimates his handicap to be 12, stood up to the par-3, 143-yard 11th-hole tee. What happened next was something golfers dream of -- Gallichio got his first hole-in-one in 18 years of playing golf after the ball bounced once in front of the pin and went in.
Gallichio’s feat was the top highlight of the day and will be etched in his memory for years to come. Fortunately, the LWSRA photographer was on the hole waiting to take the foursome’s picture when Gallichio’s hole-in-one happened and was able to capture his immediate reaction.
“My approach did look pretty good right way,” said Gallichio, who owns JMG Real Estate and was part of a foursome that was sponsored by LincolnWay Community Bank. “I’ve played Sanctuary a few times, but never experienced anything like this. I was a bit shocked when I saw it go in. After it set in what I had done, it was a pretty cool feeling.”
“We’re thankful for everyone who participated, as well as the many volunteers who gave up their Friday to ensure the fundraiser was again a huge success,” said Karyn Reczek, LWSRA Marketing and Fundraising Coordinator. “This is our Foundation’s single most lucrative fundraiser of the year. The monies raised are for the LWSRA Recreation Center which is being built for the special needs population of LWSRA’s member park districts of Frankfort, New Lenox, Mokena, Manhattan, Peotone and Wilmington Island.”
LWSRA officially broke ground April 27th for the new special recreation facility on 5.6 acres in the Heather Glen subdivision of New Lenox. The 17,000-square-foot building is expected to open in early 2014.
