Change Is Hard...Any Way You Slice It

Frankfort's recent loss of Tom and Pam Featherling, owners of Frankfort Meats & Deli, will surely have ripples in our community for weeks and months to come. Tom and Pam were staples in our historic downtown, providing longevity and old-fashioned hospitality, along with Tom’s finely honed butchering skills.

Before I opened This & That Gifts in May 2011, my husband and I worked on our building over the winter (across the patio from Frankfort Meats and Deli) and came to look forward to Pam’s homemade hot soup on those dreary, cold days. Plus, Tom and Pam were so kind and welcoming to us; they were the kind of people you felt you’d known forever.  Their 32-year run offered so much more to their customers and business neighbors than simple professional goods and services. They invested their heart and soul into their work…and it showed...and inspired me to do the same.

I have no doubt that many a Thanksgiving cook will be frantically searching elsewhere for the fabulous fresh turkeys that Tom and Pam provided year after year. Many a downtown merchant will also be shushing a rumbling stomach come lunch time while dreaming of a thick deli stacked sandwich and dill pickle spear that was only a short walk away. With the deli's closure marking the end of the last independent full service butcher in town, its memory now becomes part of Frankfort’s enduring...and endearing...story.

On behalf of my fellow FHBA merchants...Tom and Pam, we wish you well and hope to...

See you around town,
Nancy
