Manhattan's Nick Ficarello is Running for Will County Sheriff

Retired Will County Sheriff's Office deputy announced his candidacy for Will County Sheriff in the March 2014 primary. Deputy Chief Paul Kaupas, of New Lenox Township, is planning a formal announcement to run later this month.

  A 30-plus year veteran of the Will County Sheriff's Department, Nick Ficarello told the Will County Republican Central Committee that he believes he is the right man to lead the county's law enforcement team. The former watch commander in the patrol division, deputy chief at the Adult Detention Center and deputy chief of special operations and criminal investigations, Ficarello has a history of leadership, he said in a press release issued after his April 18 announcement. Ficarello, who retired in 2009, is running against his old boss, Will County Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas. Kaupas, the current sheriff's second cousin, told the Joliet Herald News that he, too, was at last week's committee meeting and is interested in running as a Republican…

Incumbents Sweep Frankfort Township Election 2013

It was clear early in the evening that it was a Republican sweep for Frankfort Township officials.

Those who cast a ballot Tuesday gave incumbents for Frankfort Township a clear vote of confidence. Every office and the trustees were re-elected for another four-year term. The after-the-polls-close party at Jameson's Pub, 9545 W. St. Francis Road, where Republican incumbents gathered to watch the returns, got enthusiastic early. As each of the precincts came in, it was a clear victory for those who have been running the township for the past four years. The winners are: Kral, assessor, was the top vote-getter for Frankfort Township. He raked in a total of 5,546 compared to challenger George Perros, with 2,395. The Fresh Face of Summit Hill D161 Board

Four out of six seats on the Summit Hill School D161 Board of Education are newcomers.

With four out of seven seats filled now by newcomers to Summit Hill School Dist. 161, a fresh crop of board members will take their seats next to board members Stacey Borgens, George Perros and Sean Doyle. The newly elected members are: The biggest vote-getter was Pamela Kohlbacher, a retired principal from D161. She received 2,140 votes. David Faber was second in line with 1,794 votes, and Richard Marron got 1,716 votes. Richard Ward came in with 1,523. Candidate Mark Zilinskas lost his bid with 1,271 votes. Early Voting in Village of Frankfort, Frankfort Township

The Will County Clerk's website reveals the details of early votes cast for the 2013 April Consolidated Elections.

Between March 25th and the end of day on April 4, the Will County Clerk's website shows a total of 4,047 voters cast a ballot for the April 9 Consolidated Election. In the Village of Frankfort, a total of 127 votes were cast at Village Hall. In the municipal complex at Frankfort Township, 243 ballots were completed.  The numbers exclude votes cast on Friday and Saturday. In addition, 507 ballots from residents throughout the county were cast in-person at the Will County Clerk's Office, and 3,371 were cast with local clerks throughout the county.  To review the early voting totals county-wide, visit the Will County County Clerk's page here. Township Trustee Candidacy is a Family Affair

Two Candidates in two Will County townships make trustee candidacy a family affair.

A Will County daughter and her father are running for township trustee seats in two Will County townships. Colleen Hassel is running for trustee in Frankfort Township and her father, Kevin Clancy, of Plainfield, is running for trustee in Plainfield Township at the same time. The two are running as Democrats. Hassell, 34, of Frankfort Square, said she learned how to give back to the community through her father's example. Growing up on Chicago's Ashburn neighborhood, her dad volunteered to coach softball for the three girls and one boy in the family. He was very supportive of the girls' activities, she said. Years later, his entry into politics served as an example too. Clancy said he moved the family to Plainfield about 20 years ago. …

Change at the Helm for Frankfort Township Republicans

Cory Singer replaces Ed Ronkowski as the chairperson for the Frankfort Township Republicans.

Mokena's Ed Ronkowski gave up his position of chair of the Frankfort Township Republican organization on March 15.  Cory Singer, 40, of Frankfort, accepted the position, beginning March 26. Ronkowski, who served as Frankfort Township Republican chair for four years, said time demands forced a decision to step away from leadership in the township. He maintains his role as chair for the Will County Republicans. A retired attorney, Ronkowski said the volunteer position in Frankfort Township was too time-consuming. He was spending between four and eight hours a day in the job. Now he has more time to dedicate to the role of chair for the Will County Republicans.
