L-W Students Graduate Mid-Year Ten students from Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 participated in a mid-year commencement ceremony Saturday, Jan. 29, at Lincoln-Way West High School in New Lenox. It marked the first time Lincoln-Way West students received diplomas since the school’s opening in 2009. Supt. Lawrence A. Wyllie and school board president David Izzo delivered the keynote addresses, telling students they are ready to step outside the world of Lincoln-Way and face new challenges. Walsh Voted President of Metro Counties JOLIET – Will County Executive Larry Walsh has been elected president of Metro Counties of Illinois, a consortium of the 14th largest counties in the state. Walsh was elected at the group’s Monday, Jan. 24, meeting. He succeeds Suzi Schmidt of Lake County, who was elected to the State Senate. He had been the group’s vice president for four years. Student Artwork Will Be Featured in Downers Grove Contest A number of Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 students were honored by having their artwork selected for inclusion in the Scholastic Art Competition in Downers Grove. Area residents will have an opportunity to see Lincoln-Way’s winning art pieces before the Gold Key winners head off to New York. An opening reception is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Feb. 6 at Downers Grove North High School, 4436 Main St., Downers Grove. Visitors can also view the pieces during school hours Feb. 7- 11. Two SXU Football All-Americans From Frankfort Senior quarterback Anthony Kropp and junior kicker Tom Lynch, both of Frankfort and both Lincoln-Way East High School graduates, were among 10 Saint Xavier football players named Jan. 14 to the 2010 Victory Sports Network NAIA All-American Team. Both claimed first team honors. Performing Arts Series Resumes in L-W District 210 Whether you’re a fan of big band music or gravity-defying feats by Chinese acrobats, Lincoln-Way High School District 210 has something for everyone in its professionally produced performing arts series. Tinley Park-Frankfort Rotary Assists Families Victimized by Domestic Violence In its mission to serve others, the Tinley Park-Frankfort Rotary Club recently sold poinsettias and donated the proceeds to a local crisis center that assists families victimized by domestic violence. “We’re extremely happy to be able to donate to such a worthy cause,” said Paul Lyons, president of the Tinley Park-Frankfort Rotary Club. “I want to thank everyone who purchased poinsettias to make this event happen.” The Rotary Club, which is comprised of business leaders, educators and clergy from the Tinley Park …
