Will County Board Report, March 2012

The Will County Health Dept. received a $50,000 grant from CenterPoint Properties to overhaul the Health Dept. website.

The Land Use Dept. Director Curt Paddock was presented the American Society of Public Administration 2012 National Integrity award by County Executive Larry Walsh and assisted by myself as Land Use and Development Committee Chairman.  The Society's Public Interity Award is made to the nominated governmental agency which has been judged to have made the greatest contribution to promoting and demonstrating ethical performance with in the public service.

Frankfort Square Park District was granted a Special Use Permit for Alcohol Sales on its Golf Course in Frankfort Township.

Craig Marchbank, property owner was granted a zoning map amendment from R-1 to R-2 for 8.37 acre parcel on the west side of Vine St. in New Lenox Township just north of Hickory Creek for the creation of a 3 lot subdivision.

A contract was awarded in the Amount of $189,201.25 to J. Russ Co. to complete public improvements in the Moolight Subdivision requested by the New Lenox Township Highway Commissioner due to the default of the developer. 

A contract was awarded in the amount of $19,436.50 to Precision Excavating to complete the removal of a soil stockpile at the Steeplechase Planned Unit Development Subdivision requested by the New Lenox Township Highway Commissioner due to the default of the developer.

The County Board approved the Will County Department of Transportation's five year plan.  It provides for over 200 miles of improved highways, rehabilitation or replacement of 11 bridges and 2 miles of new roadways.  Included are the intersection improvements at US Route 30 and Gougar Road, and the intersection of Cedar and Smith Roads.  Also included are preliminary engineering in 2013 for improvement of Laraway Road from US Route 52 to Cedar Road and engineering design for 80th Ave. bridge over I-80.

The Board approved agreements with the Village of Frankfort and the Frankfort Fire Protection District for new traffic signals at Center and Laraway Road with emergency pre-emption equipment.  Equipment maintenance is to be paid for by the Village and Fire Department. 

The Board approve a resolution concerning the proposed South Suburban Airport stating that it shall be the policy of Will County to work and negotiate with the Governor and General Assembly for legislation that provided for:  The lawful, rational, responsible and transparent development of the South Suburban Airport in Will County, and a duly constituted governing body that has all essential legal powers, including the ability to enter into lawful public-private partnership agreements, to finance, build and operate the South Suburban Airport; and that said governing body shall include regional representataion with the majority being from Will County.

The Health Dept. received a grant in the amount of $5000 to assist in Educational Training for Emergency Response of a local Medical Reserve Corp. Unit.

The Board approved a Federal Legislative Agenda which includes seeking funds for the Laraway Road Corridor Improvement Project and continued funding of Work Force Services Programs along with other projects.

The Will County website received a Sunny Award.  The Sunny Award is presented by the Editors of Sunshine Review to honor the most transparent government websites in America.  This year, only 214 of the more than 6,000 government websites ranked by Sunshine Review earned a Sunny Award.
