Hoping to east first-day jitters, Lincoln-Way High School District 210 will host a series of student mixers and open houses for students who are new to the district, including incoming freshmen and students transferring into the district from neighboring states or communities.
Students will have an opportunity to tour the schools, find their lockers and learn a little bit about student life from upperclassmen who serve as peer mentors and student ambassadors.
“We want students to know that there are other students that are able to help them with the transition to Lincoln-Way,” said Lincoln-Way East guidance counselor Katie Redwitz.
“Our goal is to assist students in feeling comfortable and confident about transferring into our district,” she added.
Incoming freshmen at all four Lincoln-Way schools – Lincoln-Way Central, Lincoln-Way East, Lincoln-Way North and Lincoln-Way West – will have an opportunity to tour the schools on the following days:
- Lincoln-Way Central, 9 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Aug. 8
- Lincoln-Way East, 3-4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13
- Lincoln-Way North, 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14
- Lincoln-Way West, 12:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6
At the open houses, freshmen will have an opportunity to walk freely through the halls with Peer Mentors and Link Crew members, talking about school life and learning where to find the cafeterias, libraries, counselor offices, academic areas and gymnasiums.
Transfer students who moved into the district over the summer also will have an opportunity to tour their new school and hear what’s expected of them during a get acquainted program at each school.
Those open houses are scheduled for:
- Lincoln-Way Central, 3-4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13
- Lincoln-Way East, 2-3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13
- Lincoln-Way North, 1-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14
- Lincoln-Way West, Noon - 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9
The programs will be led by Lincoln-Way students who transferred into the district in past years. The student ambassadors will answer questions about the schools and share stories about their own experiences.
