The Lincoln-Way North High School Mathletes team is off to a strong start, placing first in its conference at the SWSC I competition on Sept. 19.
“We’ve been working really hard to get back in the winning seat,” said Lincoln-Way North Mathletes Coach Christin Parker. “We have seniors that are very passionate about math and success this year. It is contagious.”
Seniors Christian Gorski, Jaime DeRuiter, Cailey Wulf, Caitlin Broderick, Moira Quealy, Maryann Manaparambil and Joey Tijerina were outstanding in the permutation, combination and probability topic, scoring nearly a perfect score. They were just five points shy of the mark.
Christian repeated the trend in another topic, scoring 45 out of a possible 50 in combinatorics.
The freshmen/sophomore calculator team also performed well by tying for second place overall. Those team members included Michael Brezinski, Kayla Kieklak, Payton Lang, Maggie Sheehan, Kyle Genis and Liam McGuire.
The next Mathletes competition will be Oct. 17 at Lincoln-Way North.
