The Lincoln-Way North High School Marching Phoenix brought home another trophy Saturday (Oct. 13), earning 2^nd place at the highly competitive Bands of America Regional in Akron, Ohio.

“I could not be more proud of this band,” said Lincoln-Way North music instructor Kirk Hickman, who noted this was the band’s highest overall result at a Bands of America competition since its inception four years ago.

The 107-member band performed its competitive field show “New Beginnings” in its entirety. The eight-minute program is an original show composed just for the Marching Phoenix.

Led by drum majors Morgan Boman and Alec Chase, the band competed in Class AAA of the competition, facing bands from Ohio, Virginia, Georgia, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.

The Marching Phoenix finished 2^nd in its class and 3^rd overall. It also tied for 2^nd in music overall in the finals.

First place went to Norwin High School in Pennsylvania.

“Bands of America offers something so unique and special to high school students,” said Hickman, who was thrilled to see band members interact with students from Indiana, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Ohio as they gathered for the awards presentation that night in the athletic stadium at the University of Akron.

Area residents will have an opportunity to see the Marching Phoenix perform their award-winning show at a Marching Band Showcase featuring all four Lincoln-Way marching bands on Oct. 24 at Lincoln-Way West High School, 21701 S. Gougar Road, New Lenox. The event will begin at 7 p.m.
