Police: 3 Walgreens + 2 Women + 1 Day = Nabbed With $6K in Stolen Loot

Brittany Griggs and Maurika Jackson, both of Chicago, face felony retail theft charges after police say they caught the women with goods they stole from three area Walgreens in one day.

Two Chicago women were caught with a little more than $6,000 in merchandise stolen in a single day from three Walgreens pharmacies in Frankfort and Mokena, Frankfort Police said.

Brittany K. Griggs, 24, of the 1000 block of East 80th Avenue in Chicago, and Maurika D. Jackson, 25, of the 7400 block of South Claremont Avenue, were arrested Sunday, Aug. 12, on felony retail theft charges. The two women were booked in to Will County Jail, where they are still being held on $25,000 bond each. Their next court date is Sept. 4.

A member of Walgreens staff at its store at LaGrange Road and U.S. Route 30 called Frankfort Police around 11:30 a.m. Sunday after a customer witnessed Griggs and Jackson stealing items from the store, said Deputy Chief Kevin Keegan. Officers reviewed the store's security video and witnessed the two women putting merchandise into Walgreens bags they had brought with them, he said. Police were able to identify the women's vehicle as a green Ford Explorer with gold trim and had police dispatch alert other officers in the area to be on the lookout for it, Keegan said.

At around the same time, police responded to a theft call from the Walgreens at Laraway and Wolf roads that might have involved the same Ford Explorer, Keegan said.

Officers eventually caught sight of Griggs and Jackson in the 9400 block of Lincoln Highway and pulled them over, Keegan said. During the traffic stop, the officers were told the two women also might have been involved in a theft at the Walgreens on Wolf Road in Mokena, Keegan added.

Employees from the LaGrange and Rt. 30 store identified Griggs and Jackson, and the stolen merchandise, which totaled a little more than $6,000 between the three stores, was recovered, Keegan said.

I dunno. They look local. I wouldn't give them a second look in Walgreens in Mokena.

Targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual's race is racial profiling. They were being watched because they are black. That is why they do what they do in white neighborhoods and that is why they will walk.

Since when does a customer constitute a law enforcement agency? Understand the definition of " racial profiling". They have Walgreens and Target in their own neighborhoods... Grasp the idea of why they come to ours... then ask yourself why did you?

A customer is not law enforcement, but a customer IS a valid witness and is also a valid whistle blower! I have seen people before, of VARIOUS races, stealing in stores, and have reported them to store personnel. When are people going to realize that WE the customers, are the ones who ultimately pay the price through more expensive products when people are allowed to steal? Throw the book at them!

I agree with Tim. No racial profiling. Whoever wrote that sure does not live in or around this communitee. Because if they did, they would know that all races live here and are welcome and treated all the same. And I am one of them!! I hope the customer who turned these two in gets a reward for what they did. We want our communite to be safe and do not want any crime here.

It's not racial profiling. Really? These 2 are a reason why there is racial profiling. They were found with the merchandise. What if they had done it in Chicago? Would it be racial profiling then? They drove out to the burbs with walgreens bags. What is that?
