Normally, the village's outdoor music performances—in the form of Concerts on the Green—wind down before Frankfort Fall Festival winds up.

But this year, the music on Breidert Green gets an encore with the September Sunset Music Series.

"Our normal concert series ends before Fall Fest," said Mary Canino, the village's communication manager. "But come September, the weather is still nice outside. … We wanted to try something during a couple weeks in September."

This new event, sponsored by the Village of Frankfort and the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce, will include two concerts: The first is Sunday, Sept. 23, featuring the Illinois Philharmonic Brass Quintet, the second is Sunday, Sept. 30, featuring The Faculty jazz combo. Concerts will be an hour, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

"We wanted something a little more soothing," Canino said about the musical choices. "A little bit more classical in a way, something that wasn't rock 'n' roll based."

The idea for the concert series is part of the village's continuing efforts to draw people to the historic downtown as a way to promote the stores and restaurants there.

"If it goes off well, we would at it to the list of events downtown," Canino said. "A couple of concerts in September is kind of a nice thing. … We're always looking at different events—quality events—that are of interest to residents."

This week's Concerts on the Green performers are The Midway Ramblers Cajun Band. Music starts at 6:30 p.m. on Breidert Green.
