Mariano's Could Bring About 400 New Jobs to Frankfort

The project to build a new Mariano's Fresh Market location still needs village approval, but it's getting closer to a reality. Take a look at what upscale grocery store might look like.

Although it still needs village approval, a project to build a Mariano's Fresh Market location off of LaGrange Road is shaping up to transform the Frankfort landscape, literally and financially.

Last week, the owners of Enrico's Italian Dining announced they have a preliminary agreement with Mariano's developer, Bradford Development, to sell a parcel of land on the east side of LaGrange Road, north of Lincoln Highway, that includes the restaurant, the former Town Center bank and two houses. The sale is contingent on the project's approval.

Also last week, Bradford representatives told members of the Frankfort Plan Commission at a public hearing and workshop that the new upscale grocery store could bring about 400 to 450 jobs to the village. The developers also unveiled plans that included a mock-up of the store's exterior design, as well as a layout of the 73,000-square-foot site.

The developers want to begin construction this summer, so the store could open by spring 2013, said Steven M. Pagnotta, the president and CEO for Bradford Development.

The next step for the project is a formal presentation of the final plans before the plan commission. After that, the project needs approval from the village board to go forward.

Not so sure this company has done its research on Frankfort. People complain that Jewel and Dominicks are too expensive so I am sure that a high end grocery store will go over like a lead balloon. I wish them the best of luck but we have a lot of house rich, cash poor people in this town and frugal too.

Suprisingly, Mariano's is not all that pricey.... I have shopped at one of their facilities in the city of Chicago and was totally impressed. I say bring it!

According to their website, Mariano's seems to be more like a Trader Joe's with high quality products and reasonably priced. We do have a lot of grocery stores in the area, though. We'll see what happens!

Maybe a new store will send a message to Jewel & Dominick's that they need to lower their prices. A spagetti sauce that cost .88 cents in Walmart, cost $1.50 in Walt's and 1.99 in Jewels and Dominicks.

@Kathy K:

These jobs would be connected to the daily operation of the store. So these jobs would include everything from cashier to store manager.
