UPDATED: Hello, Snow: Winter Storm Watch Starts Thursday Morning

The National Weather Service is forecasting the possibility of 2 to 4 inches of snow by Friday morning. Are you happy to finally see the white stuff?

  • UPDATED (3:25 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11): Information from Bill Carlson, road commissioner for Frankfort Township.

We knew it couldn't last forever.

So long, 50-degree days. Hello, snow.

A winter storm watch is in effect for Will County and the Chicagoland area from Thursday morning until Friday morning, with the possibility of 2 to 4 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service

Wind chills could hit near zero and wind gusts also could reach 35 mph by Thursday evening, causing hazardous blowing and drifting snow, the NWS added.

Snow plow crews for the Village of Frankfort and Frankofrt Township are getting ready for the possibility of the first significant snowfall of the winter, said Terry Kestel, the village's superintendent of public works. The late arrival of snow this season hasn't changed the way crews normally prepare, he added. Bill Carlson, road commissioner for Frankfort Township, said the only difference has been to pre-load salt trucks because forecasters are still unsure when exactly the snow will start filling.

Although the snow has gotten a late start this season, Kestel says he thinks there's still plenty of winter left to go.

"Honestly, you have to have winter," Kestel said. "I'd rather have it now than the cold weather get pushed into the spring."
