20 Years in Jail for Florida Man Who Lured Frankfort Girl into Sex
Jon Filipkowski, 33, was found guilty on four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of traveling to meet a minor last year.
A 33-year-old Florida man who used the Internet to prey and manipulate a disabled Frankfort girl into having sex with him in 2010 was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison.
In May 2011, Jon Filipkowski was found guilty of four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of traveling to meet a minor.
According to Sun-Times Media, it took a jury less than an hour to convict Filipkowski of driving from Jensen Beach, FL — where in an Internet chat room he had once pretended to be a boy — and luring the girl into sex in a Mokena hotel.
Despite feeling sick and violated at the truth, she continued her relationship with Filipkowski, the Sun-Times reported.
While the girl reportedly spoke Wednesday of enduring psychological pain, Filipkowski and members of his family tried to prevent jail time, describing the crime as a lapse of judgment from an otherwise compassionate man.
Once released from prison, Filipkowski will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life or face a separate felony charge.
“The good news is he will have no opportunity to prey upon other children while he is in prison,” Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow said in a statement.
